Development of Fish Farming

Date Created: 2002
Main beneficiaries: communities of Sapucuá Lake, Batata Lake, in Oriximiná; maroon communities of the Alto Trombetas, and communities in the cities of Faro and Terra Santa.

The practice of fish farming is a tradition in some Amazonian communities. But until recently, the production was done by hand, sometimes in a predatory way and with little commercial organization.

In 2002, the reality of these small farmers began to be transformed by the Aquaculture Development Project supported by the company. Our work is the donation of cages, fingerlings and feed for the first fish production cycles, in addition to promoting training courses for local producers.

The project benefits more than 200 families with a sustainable activity that generates income and contributes to the preservation of species of Amazonian rivers.
