Socioenvironmental Education Program

Main beneficiaries: communities in the municipalities of Oriximiná, Faro and Terra Santa.

The Socioenvironmental Education Program (PES) includes 12 social projects, which are requirements for the operation-related environmental permits for MRN. The PES has an active participation of the communities involved, who discuss and plan together with the MRN the development of each project.

The following projects are included in the PES:


  • Environmental and Heritage Education – aims to strengthen cultural identity through heritage awareness.It also has the purpose of encouraging the sustainable use of natural resources through courses and workshops on clay handicraft, and exhibits at trade shows of the products manufactured by the communities.
  • Family Farming – Provides training and technical assistance to farmers.And also stimulates production and selling of organic products.
  • Development of Fish Farming – Provides professional training, infrastructure and technical assistance to producer families, providing income generation, supplying the local market and preserving the natural fish stocks.
  • Management of Copaíba Trees – Provides training and technical assistance for the sustainable management of species of copaiba, preserving species and generating income and autonomy to local producers.
  • Meliponiculture – Contributes to the creators of stingless bees in the city of Terra Santa, through professional training and technical assistance.It helps in means of management and sustainable production. The project's partners include SEBRAE and the Union of Rural Workers of Terra Santa, and the counts on the participation of 20 families.
  • Microsystems and Artesian Wells – It aims to build microsystems and artesian wells to provide drinking water to the families of the communities that are influenced by the Trombetas Project.
  • Malaria Control – Aimed to improve the living conditions of riverside-dwelling communities in relation to malaria control, reducing the morbidity and infant and adult mortality.
  • Leme Project – Provides guidance to the public about the safety in navigation. Develops actions such as lectures, campaigns and improvements in the boats.
  • Agroforestry Systems – Aimed to promote forest conservation and socioeconomic and environmental development of the communities of Saracá, Boa Nova, Casinha and Castanhal, providing beneficiary families with living quality.

Through the PES, we reinforce our focus on the development of the region where we operate, in terms of health and safety, environment, education and sustainable development – the pillars of operation of Mineração Rio do Norte.​
