Project to Support Formal Education

Date Created: 2001
Main beneficiaries: students of the Boa Vista community (Oriximiná).

The Project to Support Formal Education is another initiative of MRN with a focus on education. When students create opportunities in the community to continue their studies in Porto Trombetas, at school Professor Jonathas Pontes Athias, we contribute to the strengthening of citizenship and social development.

In this project, we support the community on several fronts: the cost of books, uniforms, school supplies, personal hygiene supplies, food and promotion of technical courses and support for higher education.

To assist in the adaptation of new students in school and compensate for possible differences in teaching methodology, we provide tutoring classes. Four days a week, students stay in school full time, have lunch in the restaurant of MRN accompanied by a teacher, bathe, have tutoring classes, computing classes and sports at the school.

This initiative is part of the subproject AMI (Monitored Integration Action) and has contributed significantly to reducing the rates of failure and dropout of students in the riverside community.

The integration also includes other actions, such as guidance in preparing homework, communication and expression, citizenship, personal care and posture, practice sports, arts and cultural roots.

MRN also provides river and land transportation for students in the section between the community and Porto Trombetas. And for those who continue their academic training outside Porto Trombetas, we offer a monthly stipend and vacation tickets for those university students to visit their families.

The initiative benefits about 80 students.
