Escola do Campo Project

Date Created: 2002
Main beneficiaries: schools, day care and the hospital of Terra Santa.

The contact with the land for the production of inputs is a reality in almost all towns in the rural areas of Pará. in Terra Santa, within the circle of influence of MRN in western Pará, is not different. In addition to securing livelihoods, generating income and securing small producers in their own cities, the practice of agriculture is part of the popular culture.

Thinking about it, we entered into partnership with the departments of Education and Agriculture with the objective of bringing the "field practice" to the classroom. Or better: to bring students to the field. Thus, what was part of local economic culture has become a school subject. Our fund transfers made each month ensure the implementation of theoretical and practical classes conducted by agricultural technicians. In the course students learn about planting and growing vegetables and greens. The food produced is used in the strengthening of school meals, day care centers and the county hospital.

The project, which currently has about 300 students, has been internationally recognized with the Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC Awards BHP) award in the Community category in 2007.
