2008                                                               

Prêmio Valor 1000
National winner in the mining sector in the annual publication ‘Valor 1000’ by the Valor Econômico Group, which highlights the one thousand largest companies in Brazil on the basis of the last financial statements of 2007.

 

2007                                                               

BHPB Health, Safety, Environment & Community Awards 2007
In the ‘Community’ category, with the ‘Escola do Campo’ Project, awarded as Highly Commended (second place) in this initiative promoted by BHP Billliton, one of MRN’s shareholders. This award is granted to good practice programs in the areas of Health, Safety, Environment and Community Relations.

Certifications: OHSAS 18001: 2003 and ISO 14001: 2001
After audits conducted by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), an independent Norwegian foundation, created in 1864, MRN was recommended for the certifications under the ISO 14001 Standard in December of 2001 and under the OHSAS 18001 Standard in 2003. Regarding the ISO 14001 Standard, in addition to the Company’s Environmental Management System, the Porto Trombetas town site is included in this certification. The OHSAS 18001 Standard is a guarantee the Company is compliant with the legislation in effect in the country concerning safety and occupational health.

2006                                                               

BHPB Health, Safety, Environment & Community Awards
In the ‘Community’ category, with the Fish Farming Development Program, which was awarded with Excellence (first place) in this initiative promoted by BHP Billliton, one of MRN’s shareholders.

FINEP Award for Technological Innovation
The Fish Farming Project was second place regional. This award is promoted by the Department of Science and Technology in the Social Innovation Category.

2005                                                               

BHPB Health, Safety, Environment & Community Awards 2005
In the ‘Community’ category, with the Safety Campaign on the Protection of Mobile Parts of Community Vessel, awarded with Merit (for projects placed 5th through 10th) in this initiative promoted by BHP Billliton, one of MRN’s shareholders.

Aberje Journalism Award 2005, regional Mid-West/East (including the North region)
This award is promoted by the Brazilian Business Communication Association (Aberje).
In the Historical Responsibility and Enterprise Memoir category, the winner case was the Project for the book “MRN – Uma empresa que faz e conta” (MRN – Tells its story from the beginning).
In the Intranet category, the case ‘Intranet Corporativa MRN’ (MRN Corporate Intranet) was the winner.

Outstanding Company in the 2005 ABS Workplace Health and Safety Prize
This award was granted by Agência Brasil de Segurança (ABS).

2004                                                               

Liberty Equality and Fraternity Award, Community Support – Health Care category with the ‘Quilombo’ Project
Being awarded by the Brazil-France Chamber of Commerce, this prize is is acknowledgement for the best corporate works oriented for the society or community.

Ranked among the Best Brazilian Companies in People Management by the ‘Valor Carreira’ magazine, a publication of ‘Valor Econômico’, a distinguished Brazilian business newspaper.
This ranking is the result of a survey involving the employees of the company conducted by the Hay Group Consulting jointly with the ‘Valor Econômico’ newspaper. The result was published in the ‘Valor Carreira’ magazine, which is a section of the said newspaper.

Outstanding participation in the BHPB Health, Safety, Environment & Community Awards
For the reforestation works of the tailing ponds, for the support to health assistance actions oriented to riverside communities, for the filtering system that allows for the recovery of fines from drying plant gas scrubbers, and the support to the education of the descendants of slaves.
This award is promoted by BHP Billiton, one of MRN’s shareholders, for the good practices programs in Health, Safety, Environment and Community Relations.

Aberje Journalism Award 2004, regional Mid-West/East (including the North region), in the Press Relations category.
The winning case of the Aberje (Brazilian Corporate Communications Association) award was the I Meeting with Western Pará State Press, which gathered journalists of the region in a workshop where they were able to exchange experiences.

ABS Award for Workplace Safety and Health 2004 (Agência Brasil de Segurança) and Top Workplace Safety and Health Management Award
Mineração Rio do Norte’s Management and Safety System was 3rd place in the Top Workplace Safety and Health Management Award by the Agência Brasil de Segurança (ABS) and the ABS Award for Workplace Safety and Health for achieving the best result in the bauxite mining activity in 2003.

Outstanding Project in the 2004 edition of the Exame Magazine Guide for Good Corporate Citizenship in the Health category with the Quilombo Project
This Guide, published by the Exame Magazine, carries reports on socially responsible initiatives by companies all over the country.

ABS Trophies for Safety and Health and Fire Prevention and Fighting
MRN was awarded by the Brazilian Safety Agency (ABS) the ABS Trophies for Safety and Health and Fire prevention and Fighting, for the best results in both categories.

Valor 1000 Award
MRN won for the second time in a row the prize for the best company in the mining sector by the Valor 1000 yearbook, which is part of the Valor Econômico newspaper. In this edition, Valor 1000 presents the outstanding Brazilian companies in 26 most important sectors of the national economy in the different regions of the country

Biggest and Best Companies Award
Mineração Rio do Norte was appointed as the best company in the North-Northeast Region Industry category by Exame magazine due to its performance in 2002.

 

2002                                                               

ABS Environmental Award
Mineração Rio do Norte was given the ABS Environmental Award by the Brazil Security Agency (ABS), for obtaining the best results in its category.

Biggest and Best Companies Award
For the second consecutive year, MRN was chosen by Exame Magazine as the best company in the mining sector, for its performance in 2001.

Business Excellence Award
The Getúlio Vargas Foundation, through the annual publication listing the 500 Biggest Companies, issued by the Conjuntura Econômica magazine, conferred this award on Mineração Rio do Norte for its financial and productive performance and for the distinctive position held in the market.

2001                                                               

Aberje Award
MRN received the Aberje award - Regional, from the Brazilian Association of Business Communication, for the Memory House project, in the Business Memory category. The MRN Memory House is a space open to the whole community and to visitors from Brazil and abroad, whose main objective is to promote coexistence and thought about the location where the company is situated.

Biggest and Best Companies Award
Mineração Rio do Norte was chosen by the Exame Magazine as the best company in the mining sector in the year 2000. The Biggest and Best Edition is one of Brazil's leading publications on company performance on a countrywide basis.

Nomination as one of the 100 Best Companies to Work for in Brazil
For the second time, the name of MRN appeared in the list of the 100 best companies to work for in the country.

Valor 1000 Award
Mineração Rio do Norte was chosen as the best company in the mining sector by the annual publication "Valor 1000", published by the Valor Econômico newspaper, presenting the Brazilian companies that have stood out in 23 different business sectors.

ISO 14001 Certification
In December 2001, auditing work for the award of this certificate was finally completed, and in January 2002 MRN received the official certificate.

The 100 Best Companies to Work for in Brazil
Jointly issued by Exame Magazine and by the Great Place Work Institute, this guide is an important reference work about people management practices.

1999                                                               

ECO 99 Award
Awarded by the American Chamber of Commerce in recognition of corporate citizenship. MRN took part represented by the Programme To Support the Development of Riverside Communities.
