Porto Trombetas was born with the mission of housing the MRN employees and their families. Striving to ensure the well being of approximately 6 thousand inhabitants, MRN implemented this urban center with complete social and sanitation infrastructure. The Trombetas complex is supplied by a thermoelectric power station, drinking water and sewerage treatment systems. The residential village is made up of roughly 1 thousand houses and barracks for more than 1.5 thousand single employees. The infrastructure available also includes a school that provides education up to secondary level, with capacity to handle more than a thousand students; a hospital with 32 beds and full laboratorial services; leisure clubs; a cinema and theatre; the Memory House; a commercial center; an airport and national/international communication system. In
addition, a permanent programme of preventive and assistance medicine helps to
ensure that the population of Porto Trombetas enjoys an excellent quality of life.
