Presentation
In 2004 Mineração Rio do Norte celebrates its
25th year of operations in
Porto Trombetas, Oriximiná city, western Pará.
Throughout this time, the
Company has written a history of achievements, development and
respect across the region, always in search of both social and
environmental responsibility.
Such responsibility has been acknowledged through the awards
the
Company has received and materialized by its processes. In this
issue,
we introduce some of these processes such as the solid waste
management, which sets the proper disposal of each type of residue
that is generated at the residential area of Porto Trombetas.
Moreover,
the readers will get to know a little about the history on the
impact and recuperation of Lake Batata by one of the researchers
from
Rio de Janeiro State Federal University (UFRJ), Reinaldo Luiz
Bozelli,
Master and Doctor in Ecology.
One other subject treated in this edition is the rehabilitation
process of
the tailing ponds, a work that has been carried out since 1991,
of which
main results and next steps are shown here based upon the account
by
one of the researchers from Viçosa University, Luiz Eduardo
Dias,
Master and Doctor in Soils and Plant Nutrition.
Last but not least, this report still brings information on
the balance in
hectares of debushing and reforestation.
