This edition of the Environment Report brings to light extremely relevant matters especially now that the Environment Management System in line with the ISO 14001 Norm requirements is being implemented and the increase of the plant production capacity is now under way. They are:

· Environment Management System – ISO 14001;
· Environment control for opening up new mines;
· Avifauna monitoring;
· Revegetation of the tailings ponds.

The major challenge in the implementation of the Environment Management System in line with ISO 14001 is to get the certification for the whole Porto Trombetas industrial and urban complex.

Opening up of new mines is preceded by an in-depth analysis of the environmental impact, which covers various topics, such as: climatic, geological and biological aspects, amidst others. This analysis is briefly considered hereunder. Quite important is the avifauna monitoring to evaluate its growth on the reforested areas. The presence of birds on those areas is a positive indication of the favorable evolution of their biological conditions.

This edition also updates the information on the SP 2/3 tailings reservoir and shows the present status of the SP1 reservoir.
