Management Plan for the Saracá-Taquera National Forest - Agreement with IBAMA

Objective

This further agreement between MRN and IBAMA has the main objective of establishing the ecological and economic zoning and the regulations that are to govern land use in the area and the management of natural resources, and also provide infrastructure necessary for the management of the Saracá-Taquera National Forest.

Operating Structure

Mineração Rio do Norte has provided funding for the hiring of a consultancy firm to design a management plan for the Saracá-Taquera National Forest.

Results Obtained

The Management Plan was finally unveiled in December 2001, having been devised by STCP Project Engineering Ltd. It comprises the following points: general aspects, analysis of preservation unit (abiotic, antropic and biotic factors and integrated diagnostic analysis), management and development (zoning, rules of conduct and circulation, internal by-laws, management and development programme).

The document concerning General Aspects of the Saracá-Taquera National Forest within the Management Plan gives an overview of general information on the Conservation Unit, including its classification: federal and regional, geopolitical, morphoclimatic, biogeographic, together with a historical account of the setting up of FLONA, thereby providing a global insight into the Conservation Unit.
